GUST President Appointed Minister-Counsellor for Strategic Development

The Global University of Science and Technology (GUST) is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Gamal Kafafy, President of GUST, as Minister-Counsellor for Strategic Development Affairs of the World Fund for Development and Planning (WFDP).

This distinguished appointment represents a significant recognition of Prof. Kafafy’s extensive international professional experience, strategic leadership, and longstanding commitment to sustainable development, institutional development, and international cooperation.

Prof. Kafafy brings to this role a professional journey spanning more than a decade of service as WFDP Chief Consultant for Energy & Sustainable Development, supporting initiatives and collaborations addressing sustainable energy, environmental development, institutional capacity building, and strategic development.

The renewed appointment reflects the confidence placed in Prof. Kafafy’s professional expertise, leadership, integrity, and commitment to advancing sustainable development and strengthening international cooperation.

The World Fund for Development and Planning (WFDP), an intergovernmental organization holding Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN-ECOSOC) and affiliated with the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (UN-OSAA), has made the appointment in recognition of Prof. Kafafy’s professional competence, integrity, international experience, and sustained commitment to development objectives and international cooperation.

In his capacity as Minister-Counsellor for Strategic Development Affairs, Prof. Kafafy will contribute his experience in strategic development, energy, sustainability, institutional development, and international cooperation in support of the WFDP’s mission regionally and internationally.

The appointment further reflects the increasingly international dimension of GUST’s leadership and institutional engagement.

As President of the Global University of Science and Technology, Prof. Kafafy has continued to promote international academic cooperation, scientific research, professional development, innovation, sustainable development, and strategic partnerships across regions.

His expanded international responsibilities provide an additional platform for strengthening dialogue and cooperation among academic institutions, governments, international organizations, development institutions, industry, and professional communities.

GUST and Libya’s Ministry of Industry & Minerals Celebrate the 1st International Green Energy Management Graduates in the Northwest Africa

Misrata, Libya | 9 July 2026

The Global University of Science & Technology (GUST) in collaboration with the Green Industry Center (GIC), Ministry of Industry & Minerals, Government of National Unity – Libya, proudly celebrated the successful completion of the 1st International Professional Graduation Ceremony in Libya – Northwest Africa.

Held at the Ministry of Industry & Minerals – Green Industry Center (GIC) in Misrata, the ceremony marked the successful completion of the International Certified Green Energy Manager (GEM) Diploma, the first international professional program of its kind in the Northwest Africa to award a Dual International Certifications jointly conferred by the Global University of Science & Technology (GUST) and the World Green Economy Council (WGECO).

Under the academic leadership of Prof. Dr. Mohamed G. Kafafy, President of GUST, and the professional leadership of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Taher Elayeb, Director General of the Green Industry Center (GIC), the intensive executive diploma was delivered, as part of the Ministry’s strategy to strengthen national human capital and accelerate Libya’s transition toward a competitive green economy and sustainable industrial development.

This professional diploma equipped participants with internationally recognized competencies in Contemporary Energy Management, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Industrial Energy Auditing, Zero Carbon Emissions, Green Economy, LARG (Lean, Agile, Resilience, Green) Management and Sustainable Industrial Development, based on global best practices and international standards.

All participants successfully passed the international certification examinations, creating a distinguished cohort of Certified Green Energy Managers (GEM) capable of leading sustainability and decarbonization initiatives across Libya.

The program brought together distinguished engineers and managers from the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, the Green Industry Center (GIC), the Misrata Free Zone (MFZ) the Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO), the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL), together with academic representatives from the Faculties of Engineering and Industrial Technology.

A major highlight of the Graduation Ceremony was the conferment of the Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration upon H.E. Mr. Mustafa Ali Al-Samou, Acting Minister of Industry and Minerals, in recognition of his outstanding leadership and exceptional contributions to advancing green industry, industrial modernization, and sustainable development in Libya.

On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Gamal Kafafy, President of GUST, emphasized that the University’s international mission is to advance Education for Employment (E4E) and multidisciplinary Learning for Leadership (L4L) Frameworks to develop future leaders capable of driving the global transition toward sustainable development through internationally recognized education, professional certification, research, and strategic partnerships.

Prof. Dr. Mostafa Taher Elayeb, Director General of the Green Industry Center (GIC), reaffirmed the Center’s commitment to expanding international cooperation with leading academic & professional institutions to strengthen Libya’s national capabilities in energy efficiency, renewable energy, green industry, and sustainable economic development.

The Global University of Science and Technology (GUST) proudly celebrated the 4th International Professional Graduation Ceremony in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda, recognizing a new cohort of accomplished professionals, managers, and executives from government, public, private, and international organizations.

The ceremony marks another significant milestone in GUST’s mission of Education for Employment (E4E) and Learning for Leadership (L4L), providing internationally recognized qualifications and competency-based professional development programs designed to prepare leaders for the challenges of a rapidly evolving global economy.

This program conducted to award dual international certifications : 1st Professional Certifications by the HR Management Institute (HRMI) and 2nd International Professional Certificate by GUST at the end of the program upon completion the examinations successfully.

Dr. Mandla Ncinitwa

Honorary Doctor of Business Administration
Dr. Ncinitwa is a respected South African media executive and currently the Head of Channel at Soweto TV, the first 24-hour community television station in the country. With over 18 years of experience, he has shaped national community broadcasting policy, strengthened media development, and expanded audience engagement. His leadership reflects innovation, strategic management, and industry impact.

Dr. Lilian Nneka Nneji

Honorary Doctor of Music
Dr. Nneji is an internationally recognized gospel minister, worship leader, and recording artist, celebrated for her energetic performances and uplifting songs. She has served in church leadership and built a music ministry that reaches audiences globally, while also mentoring upcoming musicians. Her work promotes faith, joy, and cultural expression.

Dr. Catherine Chinyelu Ekwelibe

Dr. Ekwelibe is a first-class academic and accomplished entrepreneur, founder of PAKS Co. Ltd, a major facility management and infrastructure services company employing over 500 personnel across Nigeria. Her professional leadership, community contributions, and role in women’s economic empowerment reflect excellence in management and service.

Dr. Everton Mlalazi

Honorary Doctor of Music
Dr. Mlalazi is a leading Zimbabwean gospel artist whose inspirational music promotes hope, unity, and worship across Africa. His collaborations with award-winning choirs and international ministry influence have earned him multiple prestigious gospel awards. He is recognized for uplifting communities through music and spiritual message.

Dr. Thabang Mnisi

Honorary Doctor of Arts & Humanities
Dr. Mnisi is a South African media publicist, producer, and cultural promoter who has supported the careers of major gospel musicians and artists. His work in event production, broadcasting, marketing, and public relations has strengthened the creative industry and elevated African gospel arts representation.

Dr. Nonye Ayeni

Honorary Doctor of Business Administration
Dr. Ayeni is the CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and a distinguished leader in national economic development and international trade. Under her leadership, Nigeria achieved record non-oil export performance. She champions innovation, women-led business empowerment, and African trade advancement.

Dr. Ogola Enogenyi Onazi (“Ogee”)

Honorary Doctor of Arts & Humanities
Dr. Onazi is a veteran media broadcaster, trainer, and leadership advocate with over 47 years of service. She pioneered multiple radio stations, led broadcasting organizations, and founded media and peace leadership initiatives that support youth development and positive social influence.

Dr. Emmanuel Aniefiok Iren

Honorary Doctor of Diplomacy & International Relations
Dr. Iren is the founder of Celebration Church International (CCI), a global ministry with congregations in several nations. Through music, books, conferences, and leadership development platforms, he influences faith growth and intercultural ministry engagement beyond national borders.

Dr. Isaiah Wealth Michael (Isaiah Macwealth)

The Honorary Doctorate represented one of the highest recognitions conferred by GUST. It was awarded to eminent leaders, professionals, innovators, academics, policymakers, and humanitarian figures who demonstrated:

  • Contributions to education, science, technology, governance, peace, and sustainable development
  • Long-standing service benefiting society and humanity

The 2025 ceremonies in Lomé and Ouagadougou underscored GUST’s belief that global excellence is not limited by geography and that Africa continues to produce visionary leaders whose contributions deserve international recognition.

International Standards & Academic Integrity

All honorary doctorate nominations were reviewed by GUST’s Global Honorary Degree Committee, in accordance with international academic norms, ethical standards, and global best practices for honorary awards. Each nomination underwent a rigorous evaluation process ensuring transparency, credibility, and academic integrity.

Honorary degrees were conferred honoris causa, recognizing merit and impact rather than academic coursework, while upholding the prestige and values associated with doctoral recognition worldwide.

Strengthening Global Academic & Societal Engagement

The West Africa ceremonies formed part of GUST’s broader global initiative to:

  • Promote leadership and excellence aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
  • Strengthen academic, professional, and institutional partnerships across regions

🎓Honorary Doctorate

An honorary doctorate is granted for the purpose of recognizing those persons who exemplify the ideals of the Global University of Science & Technology (GUST) through sustained achievement and distinction of national or international significance. The degree is a standard means by which GUST recognizes distinguished performance. The honorary doctorate is routinely regarded as the highest form of recognition a University can bestow.

We feel that lots of distinguished people who has special contribution to their nation; society; education; scientific works; industry, cultural and peace activities or other humanitarian activities deserve an honorary degree, not just the rich and famous. You too may qualify for the highest degree available on this planet. You too may deserve an Honorary Doctorate, and the right to put Dr. in front of your name.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. The candidates to be chosen for eligibility will exemplify the Global University of Science & Technology (GUST) values as an institution, unwavering integrity, uncompromising character, and meet the following criteria as described below
  2. – Professional Accomplishment: Academic and industry accomplishments with sustained achievements of distinction; influential contributions within business, government, academia, military, and/or entrepreneurialism; national/global honors awarded within discipline or interdisciplinary achievements; significant discoveries and research; highest level of academic scholarship and recognition. The nominee shall have gained distinction worthy of recognition extending well beyond his/her own field of endeavor and geographical area of activity.
  3. – Commitment to Serve: Impact and contributions to nation and humanity; transformational, influential and innovative leadership; significant impact and development and mentorship of others; demonstrated commitment to benefiting society; entrepreneurially inspired contributions; commercialization efforts that bring elements to life for positive universal influence.
    – Commitment to Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Profound commitment, involvement, leadership and service toward achieving SDGs at national, regional and/or global level.

International Collaboration & Recognition with BICSI Southeast Asia

The Global University of Science & Technology (GUST) working together with Governments, United Nations and other International Organizations to promote and advocate the Global Sustainable Development Goals, set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 for the year 2030. Therefore, on behalf of the GUST, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Gamal Kafafy – University President sustainably cooperating with the BICSI Southeast Asia for promoting the concepts, applications and strategies toward green economy and zero waste transition for zero carbon nations.

The GUST President, Prof. Dr. Mohamed G. Kafafy, participated as Guest of Honor & Keynote Speaker at BICSI Southeast Asia in JB, Malaysia 2025.
